Wednesday Wintervals is back for 2018/19!

It's a great place to keep fit over the winter, train with a group, get advice on technique and be coached through different sessions to help improve your speed, strength and endurance.

The sessions are designed for runners of all abilities; each session will consist of 2 parts.
Part 1 will focus on technique, drills and good practice.
Part 2 will be a more physically demanding and will be a unique session aimed at targeting a specific area such as Speed, Endurance or Strength.

Our sessions are based on time (opposed to distance) meaning everyone exercises for the same length of time irrelevant of speed - making it suitable for all abilities.

What are the main aims of Wednesday Wintervals?
-To improve your technique and fitness
-Give you confidence in your running
-Provide a friendly and positive environment for you to train in during winter
-Try to answer any questions you have regarding all things running


Wednesday Wintervals is run in 3 week blocks in the months of November, December, January and February.  Each 3 week block will cost £15 or you can book on all 4 for £50.

Group sizes are limited to 18 per session.
Each block consists of 3 Wednesday sessions. Apart from January these will be the first 3 Wednesdays of each month.

Wednesday Wintervals will meet at Hunters Bar Roundabout at 6.20pm for a 6.30pm departure. From here we’ll jog to the location of the session - This will take between 2-5 minutes. Each session will last between 60-80 minutes.

The sessions will be based predominantly on tarmac and good quality paths and tracks. The may also be on grass from time to time but this will depend on the session. 

The 1st part will be technique and drill based.
The 2nd part will be more taxing on the legs and lungs.

There is limited availability - places must be booked in advance!
The sessions are designed so they are suitable for all abilities:

Whether you're running a 30 minute or 20 minute Park Run, run on or off road, want to improve your technique and form or just have a group to train with Wednesday Wintervals is for you.

The sessions are based on time so speed & fitness are irrelevant.
(We do ask that you're able to run the 5-10 minutes to and from the training location (it will never be more than 1 mile))

The Team

Dave Taylor

Dave is a UK Athletics Coach specialising in Fell and Mountain running. He’s a hugely experienced local fell runner and in 2015 was the V50 English Fell Running Champion! Dave has been coaching runners for several years, taking sessions for groups of all abilities helping runners develop difference aspects of their running from technique to navigation. 

Alistair Wood & Steve Franklin

Ali & Steve will be supporting Dave in 2018. Dave will be head coach. Both Ali & Steve have helped out on Wintervals and Summer Fell Training since 2016. They both have backgrounds in sport science and elite sports and are familiar with what it takes to coach as well as to be coached.
